Understand Academy Group Chats in VR SPORT
Learn how Branch-wide, Program and Batch groups organise Academy communication and who can access each type.
Who can manage Academy groups
The Academy owner and Academy staff with Attendance & Communication permission can open Academy Messages and create eligible groups. The active Academy plan still determines which group types are available.
Where to find Academy messages
- Open the Academy account in the VR SPORT mobile app.
- From the Academy dashboard, open Messages.
- Use the chat list to search conversations, filter by group type and open a group.
- Select Add to create a new Academy communication group.
Group types available to an Academy
- Branch-wide: one general Academy announcement group is available on every Academy plan. The app labels this group Branch-wide.
- Program: a group for active Players enrolled in one selected program. Available on Growth and Premium.
- Batch: a group for active Players assigned to one selected batch. Available on Growth and Premium.
Who is added when the group is created
- The Academy owner is added as the group administrator.
- Active Players are added according to the selected group type.
- Assigned Coaches are added when they are connected to the relevant Academy activity.
- Active staff are added according to the communication rules used by the selected group type.
One group per communication scope
VR SPORT prevents duplicate active groups for the same scope. Only one Branch-wide group can exist, and only one active Program or Batch group can be created for each selected program or batch.
Note: An archived group is terminal. The creation flow may allow a replacement group after the previous group has been archived.
Message permissions
- Allow Players to reply: Players can participate in the conversation.
- Read-only: use the group as an announcement channel. Non-admin members cannot send messages.
- The optional welcome message is posted as the first announcement after the group is created.
Related operating rules
- Deactivated groups are paused and can be reactivated by the group owner or an administrator.
- Archived groups cannot be reactivated.
- A linked Program or Batch group can become paused when the related program or batch is deactivated.
